Bombay Swadeshi Co-operative Stores Co. Ltd. came into existence on 14th Dec 1905. On Dec 17th 1906, the flagship store was inaugurated by
Dr. Dadabhai Naoroji on D.N. Road, Mumbai.
The year 1963 was a landmark in the history of the company, as it became the first retail organization to be listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. It then came to be known as Bombay Swadeshi Stores Ltd.
In the present day of globalisation, the swadeshi movement has little significance. As the store now caters to an audience with a contemporary mindset the brand was re-christened in 1995 as 'The Bombay Store'.
